CTR Bear Spotlight- Turtle

Turtle is 7 years old. His favorite scripture story is Daniel and the Lions. He likes when he gets to play hang-man in his primary class. Turtle likes science and likes to play video games and play outside. His favorite primary song is "I am a Child of God." One time when he got to choose the right this week was when he went to bed without getting up, like his mom said.

Bishopric Message

One highlight of Primary is when a member of the Bishopric comes in to share a message each Fast Sunday. The Bishopric members are so exciting, they are almost like super heroes! This week Brother Pueblo talked about miracles and brought a special guest with him: his baby son Dallin.

Valiant John

This Sunday we learned about John Anderson in Primary. He is 9 years old, likes the army and Disneyland.
He brought this picture of him at Disneyland when he was a baby.

Next week will be Alexander Green.

Singing Time Fun

Sister Voigt was our Substitute for Singing Time today in Primary. We were glad to have her filling in and also appreciated having Sister Hodnett fill in on the piano.

To encourage Senior Primary to get excited about singing, she would pick someone who was doing a good job and they got to have a turn to come up and cut off a piece of her husband's tie.

Thanks Brother Voigt, for being a good sport.

CTR Bear Spotlight

We just started a new spotlight in our Junior Primary. Each week one child will get to be in charge of the CTR bear for our Primary. They can take him home and be in charge of him all week.

Along with the bear will come a sheet where they answer some questions that we will read to learn about them at the end of the week.

This week our spotlight was Sailor. She is 5 years old and her favorite person in the scriptures is Jesus. She likes to play dolls, play with her brothers and friends form church, and draw! Her favorite primary song is "I am a Child of God."
A time during the week when she got to choose the right was when instead of fighting with her little brother she chose to stop and work it out.
She took the CTR bear with her to the stake Pioneer Day Activity.
Next week we look forward to learning more about Turtle Leach.

Valiant ME Bag

Last Sunday our Valiant spotlight was Allie. She brought this cute picture of her as a baby.
She also brought a swimming trophy she got this year for most improved, a stuffed giraffe from Disneyland, and one of her favorite books. It's called "Mud Pie Annie" and was illustrated by one of her mother's friends.
The bag went to John Anderson to bring back next week.

Come, Follow Me

We sang "Come, Follow Me" for the closing song in primary today. The kids are really getting good at the sign language (and so are the teachers).

Thanks to Allie and Crystal for their great talk and scripture today in Primary.

Pioneer Sharing Time

Sister Woodbury taught us about pioneers for sharing time last week. She told the kids that the next time they are bored, they should just go outside and play with rocks and sticks, because those are some of the only toys the pioneers had. She also brought a corn husk and told how they would make dolls out of them. A few minutes later our CTR 6 teacher Suezanne Teel had taken the corn husk and made this really cute doll. There are so many hidden talents in Primary!

Pioneer Singing Time

Last Sunday Sister Brady brought props and costumes to help us learn a Primary Song about Pioneers. We'll finish working on it next week. Happy Pioneer Day!

Little Pioneer Children
Children's Songbook p. 216

Little pioneer children gath'ring berries for food
See the pioneer children hunting chips for wood.
Gladly helping each other, merry and happy were they,
Walking along, moving along, on their way.

Hear the pioneer children singing all the day.
See the pioneer children, there's still time for play.
Often singing and dancing, merry and happy were they,
walking along, moving along, on their way.

(Allie and Morgan are gathering berries for food)

(Liam and Elliot are happily helping each other lift a basket)

(the Senior Primary teachers are playing with some pioneer toys)

(some of the CTR 4 girls are demonstrating pioneer dancing and twirling)

I Can Follow Jesus Christ's Example

Jesus said, "Come, follow me." (Luke 18:22)
We will be focusing on this scripture during July to go along with our theme: I can Follow Jesus Christ's Example
We are learning Hymn # 116 "Come, Follow Me" that we will be performing for our Primary Sacrament Meeting. Sister Brady has started teaching us sign language for the first couple of lines. We'll try to post some sign language helps on here next week so that everyone can be practicing.

Liahona Sharing Time

This Sunday we learned about How the Holy Ghost Can Speak to Me and practiced memorizing Moroni 10:5 "And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things." Sister Boice told us the story of how the Liahona helped Nephi and his family. As she told the story each class got a chance to act out some different things: Traveling, bow and arrow, hungry, angry, and tent.

This is Senior Primary showing us their bow and arrow.
We also learned that if we want the Holy Ghost to be with us, we have to send him an invitation, as if to a party. We can invite him by doing good things, like obeying our parents. After discussing this and moving on with the lesson one child raised her hand to ask, "How long do we have to do these good things??" There's never a dull moment in Primary.

Scripture Power

The children are encouraged to bring their scriptures with them to church on Sunday. Each week we sing the song "Scripture Power" and everyone who has their scriptures with them gets to grab a fuzzy and put it into our big scripture power container.
We have been working all year long to fill it up.

We finally got it full last Sunday and presented it to the Bishop at the end of Primary.

As we get to the chorus the kids lift their scriptures in the air and sing "Scripture Power keeps me safe from sin, Scripture Power is the power to win. Scripture Power! Everyday I need the power that I get each time I read!"

Holy Ghost Song

We are learning a new song in Primary this month. We worked on the first verse this week and had some great child artists draw pictures on the chalkboard to help us remember the words.

The Holy Ghost
Children's Songbook p.105

1. When Christ was on the earth,
He promised he would send
The Holy Ghost to comfort us,
Our true, eternal friend.
The Holy Spirit whispers
With a still small voice.
He testifies of God and Christ
And makes our hearts rejoice.

2. And when we are confirmed
By sacred priesthood pow’r,
The Holy Ghost is giv’n to us
To guide us ev’ry hour.
Oh, may I always listen
To that still small voice.
And with his light I’ll do what’s right
Each time I make a choice.

June 6 Sharing Time

Today for Sharing Time Sister Woodbury shared several stories about the warnings we can receive from the Holy Ghost. She shared this one from the friend about a girl who heeds a prompting from the Holy Ghost that keeps her safe while riding her bike. She also shared this one from the Ensign.

Monday, May 31, 2010

Holy Ghost

The theme for June will be: The Holy Ghost Testifies of the Truth of All Things.
We would like as many children, parents, and teachers as possible to memorize the scripture Moroni 10:5. "By the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things."

Rainbows

Sharing Time today was based on this Song:

I like to look for rainbows whenever there is rain
And ponder on the beauty of an earth made clean again.
I want my life to be as clean as earth right after rain
I want to be the best I can and live with God again.

I know when I am baptized my wrongs are washed away
And I can be forgiven and improve myself each day
I want my life to be as clean as earth right after rain.
I want to be the best I can and live with God again.

Click here to see the Church's interactive music player for this song.

We made rainbows in Primary using light and water and each child was given a rainbow nametag on which to write something they will do to "be the best I can!"

Repentance Sharing Time

At first glance, this looks like a nice little picture of a house. If you look closely you will see that there are a few things that are just slightly not right. If we move away from the Savior, even a little bit, we will lose the spirit and need to repent, even if it seems like something so small that no one will ever notice. The warmth and light we feel from the spirit will help us know when we are close to the Savior.

There are 20 things wrong with this picture. How many can you find? Answers will be posted tomorrow.

Valiant ME Bag

We have just started a new way of getting to know the Valiant members of our Senior Primary. Each week someone new is selected to take home the red bag and fill it with things that help us learn about them. They are also encouraged to tell us something valiant they did during the week.

Julia Lynch was the first name drawn. She brought a favorite book and CD, her jump rope, and a picture of the temple she keeps by her bed.
We look forward to learning about Bethany Rice next week.
